To Answer This Question, I’ll Love To Provide My Background For A Start

I am a mid-level content marketer with over years of experience in social media, SEO, content strategy, and content creation. I have helped scale the social media presence of up to 10 small and medium brands in this period.

I am also on every major social media platform and in my experience I have found that it might not be the best approach to grow all these platforms at once.

Here’s the 3-Step Guide to Selecting The Right Social Media Platform For Your Business in 2025

So, to revise the question this person is asking, I’ll say,

“Which social media platform should I focus on for my business in 2024.”

This is the exact process I will use if I were to choose the social media platforms to grow in 2025…

Where Are My Customers?

That is, which social media platform houses my ideal customers in larger numbers.

So, let’s break it down…

Facebook

Facebook is the broadbased marketplace with a highly non-specific audience. On Facebook you’ll also find an older demography of users, typically above 25 years of age.

Therefore, Facebook can be ideal if you are targeting older users with no specific niche of interest for your content.

Instagram

Instagram is the younger social app from Meta, Facebook’s parent company that is a lot more engaged and the focus of videos and photos makes it a lot more aesthetic. Instagram’s engaging interface drives more people to buy on the platform. Little wonder, Instagram’s shopping features are prioritized over Facebook Meta.

If your target in 2025 are younger adults between ages 18 – 24, Instagram should be among your priority platforms to build in 2025.

Businesses that require a lot of visual storytelling like real estate developers, architects, D2C brands, fashion, and interior designers should consider the platform in 2025.

TikTok

TikTok is perfect for targeting younger audiences even more than Instagram. Over 37% of its audience is currently aged between 18 – 24. According to Statista, over 78% of US Gen Zs are using the platform, a pattern that is likely being repeated across the globe.

The amount of time spent on the platform is also a great signal for businesses to consider selling on the platform. However, the earning power of the younger generation should be considered before going all in on the platform.

Without doubt, TikTok is a major platform to consider for your business in 2025. Small businesses and direct to customer (D2C) brands should prioritise TikTok for business in 2025.

Twitter/X

Twitter is another platform many businesses may consider in 2025. Although it experienced a 13% decline in numbers when it rebranded to X, the platform continues to see an average user’s time in the range of 34 minutes daily. This suggests a strong attraction to the platform by those still using it.

It must be stated that most businesses should focus on building a community around their brand like chipotle, chic-a-fill, and mcdonald’s have done on the platform. A few tools to explore to grow your community is buying X premium, creating a community where interested people can join, and host X spaces at regular intervals.

Big brands that require a lot of customer service should consider Twitter (X) in 2025. The tagging features and front facing replies make it easier to track brand mentions. Small businesses who have the ability to build a community should look into Twitter (X) in 2025 as well.

What Is Your Preference?

Although all these platforms listed above may be home to your customers, I believe you should give allowance to consider your personal preferences. However, you must take note that where your customers are takes priority over your preference anytime.

In this video, I gave two personal examples of how I factor in my personal preferences in my use of social media for business.

Watch at minutes 04:36 to 05:34 here

Example 1

I personally do not like LinkedIn due to the cliche modes of posting on the platform but I use the platform because it has a potential to bring me business and opportunities for work. This highlights how you should allow where your customers are to override your personal preferences.

Example 2

I have a TikTok account and maybe my customers are right there on TikTok but I do not like its addictive nature. Do you remember TikTok has the highest average amount of minutes each user spends daily on the platform?

This example highlights how I use my preference to guide my use of social media. LinkedIn, Reddit, and Pinterest are some of the social media platforms to particularly weigh your preference on before launching on them.

3. Test Relentlessly On The Shortlisted Platforms

You have identified the platform where your customers are and weighed it against your personal preference. Now you need to test each platform that made it to this stage for content performance.

First, you should claim your brand name on every platform possible even if you won’t grow it yet. Beyond preserving your brand on these platforms the benefit of having all that access is to test out what is working on each one of these platforms at will.

To avoid testing too many you should already have a shortlist of about two or three from the last two steps. So, to test on those options shouldn’t be stressful at all.

Here’s how to test your social media pages for content performance:

  • Create a few pieces of content and format them for each platform.
  • Publish the post and measure for performance after 24 hours.
  • Repeat the testing process for a week or two.

The platform with the best performing content in engagement, reach, and follower growth is the best choice for your business in 2025. The second best and more are in that same order.

Takeaways

With these tips I believe you now know which platforms to grow in 2025 for your business. You can repeat this 3 step process of identifying where your customers are, considering your personal preference, and testing out content performance at your chosen frequency throughout the year.
